According to research firm Chitika, Mac OS X Yosemite is quite the hit. Apple only announced it during last month’s WWDC, but already the early adoption rates for the developer preview of the upcoming operating system are already outpacing the adoption rates for the developer preview of OS X Mavericks.
Chitika obtained its data by studying ad impressions from Mac OS X users from the U.S. and Canada from June 2 to July 2, 2014. Not long after it was announced at WWDC 2014, usage of the operating system shot up to 0.15 percent of total usage after just a handful of days, which marks a significant improvement over the 30 days Mavericks took to reach 0.05 percent of the traffic measured by Chitika.

“Overall, the data point to a promising future for OS X Yosemite,” the report says. “In the short term, we expect the operating system’s usage share to grow in the wake of the release of the third Developer Preview edition on July 7, 2014. Additionally, with the increased level of developer activity thus far, along with the success of the similarly no cost OS X Mavericks, it’s very probable that OS X Yosemite adoption will outpace that of any other previous Mac desktop OS when it is released publicly later this year.”
Chitika believes that this heightened interested has much to do with the new sharing features such as Handoff announced at WWDC, which allow users to pick up what they were doing on one Apple device on another. As a result, there’s likely a lot of iOS developers who normally don’t spend much time with OS X trying out the operating system as well.
