The iPhone’s battery life has steadily been improving since its debut, but a new rumored partnerhsip in the works between Apple and Britain’s Intelligent Energy could result in iDevice battery lives reaching days or weeks. Reaching this goal is all about implementing embedded fuel cells, reports The Daily Mail.
Letting alone the obvious attractions of not having to worry about charging your iDevice (or even plugging it in the wall), embedded fuel cells provide a clean method of converting chemical energy into electricity. If there’s truth to the rumor, the implementation of such cells would be a milestone in the development of the Cupertino company’s green-energy policies.

Of course, the Mail reports that neither Apple nor Intelligent Energy are willing to comment on the matter at this time. But something’s almost certainly up. Last year the British firm bought a bundle of patents pertaining to fuel cells last year, and a former Apple computer product specialist, Joe O’Sullivan, is current serving as the COO of Intelligent Energy.
The catch? All of this is at least a few years off (and, of course, there’s no confirmation that the Mail‘s report is based on anything other than idle talk). But this could be big, and in a world that’s increasingly starved for energy, it could turn out to be one of Apple’s most important innovations to date.
