the new connector in all of the new iPods and the iPhone 5 is referred to as Lightning (like Thunderbolt, get it?). it is an 8-pin connector, this means that it can be much smaller than the 30-pin connector Apple’s been the use of because it ditched FireWire almost 10 years ago.
