Apparently, the iPhone 6 rumor mill has run dry: No sooner does another report on Apple’s fabled iWatch surface Thursday night, than two others pop up offering even more details on how Cupertino might dominate the wrist.
The Wall Street Journal today reported that not only is Apple planning a smartwatch, but the iPhone maker plans to offer “multiple versions” of the device, which is expected to finally arrive sometime this fall.
According to the usual “people familiar with the matter,” Apple’s smartwatch is said to “include more than 10 sensors,” including several used to track health and fitness. That should hardly comes as a surprise, given the company revealed a new Health app on the way for iOS 8 earlier this month.
“Apple aims to address an overarching criticism of existing smartwatches that they fail to provide functions significantly different from that of a smartphone,” the source elaborated.
The Apple smartwatch will reportedly “come in multiple screen sizes,” with one component supplier claiming the company hopes to manufacture between 10 and 15 million such devices by the end of 2014.
This news doesn’t seem all that surprising to KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo, who anticipates Apple will “launch multiple smartwatches that come with different designs as watches are fashion accessories. One design doesn’t fill all.”
A second report today from GforGames claims Apple is being held up by FDA certification for the device, which is rumored to include a “sweat analysis sensor” that would classify the iWatch as medical equipment.
