One of the big bits of tech news that emerged over the last couple of days was the reveal of reversible USB cord connectors, which means the days of playing the guessing game to figure out how to plug in a USB cord are at an end. And according to photos posted by China’s Dianxinshouji.com(via MacRumors), Apple users may be among the first people to see them.
The photos in question show Lightning cables reputed to be from Apple supplier Foxconn, but their ends now support reversible USB connectors as opposed to the old style (in which the connector was limited to one side). The USB 3.0 Promoter Group stated in its original announcement of the 3.1 reversible connectors that the cables wouldn’t start shipping until next year, but if the photos are legit, there’s a small chance we could see them with the release of the iPhone 6.

A small chance, mind you. There’s no proof that the cable photos are authentic, after all, although the news does follow on the heels of an earlier report that a patent application from Apple surfaced last month that included the reversible connectors.
For now, as with all things related to upcoming Apple devices, we’ll have to wait until Apple’s rumored media event on September 9 to find out if these rumors bear weight or not.
